Braves Call LaStella Up Pastornicky Optioned Out
- Updated: May 28, 2014
The Atlanta Braves have promoted second base prospect Tommy LaStella from their Triple-A Gwinnett farm club and sent utility man Tyler Pastornicky down.
Pastornicky had been given a shot to take over the second base job, but had been plagued with fielding mistakes.
The left-handed hitting LaStella is the contact type hitter that the Atlanta Braves line-up sorely lacks. LaStella was hitting .293 at Gwinnett with a .384 on-base-percentage in 47 games. He had eight extra base hits and 23 RBIs.
LaStella has a career .322 average and .407 on-base-percentage in his minor league career. He has only 102 strikeouts and 136 walks in 1,196 plate appearances.
Seeing a player in an Atlanta Braves uniform that isn’t gunning for the fences with every swing is going to be a strange sight for Braves’ fans.
