Broncos Sign Former Manning Teammate
- Updated: July 31, 2013
The lure of playing with Peyton Manning has brought former Indianapolis offensive lineman Ryan Lilja out of retirement. The 32-year old Lilja agreed to a contract with the Denver Broncos. Terms were not announced.
Denver had been looking around for a center since starter Dan Koppen went down with a knee injury that will keep him out of the entire 2013 season. Manny Ramirez, who took most of the off-season snaps at center, has been filling in for Koppen in training camp.
With Kansas City last season, Lilja made the transition from guard to center. Lilja decided to retire at the end of the season after the Chiefs went 2-14.
Lilja played six years with Manning in Indy as an offensive guard. Jeff Saturday was the center, but he’s working for ESPN now as a TV analyst.
The Broncos finished last season with a solid 13-3 record in Manning’s first season with the team but did not advance in the playoffs.
