Dolphins Cut Richard Marshall
- Updated: August 20, 2013
The Miami Dolphins have severed ties with cornerback Richard Marshall. Marshall was signed just last season by the Dolphins to a 3-year, $16 million deal. Marshall had been competing with Jimmy Wilson for a cornerback spot.
Marshall only played four games last season for the Dolphins due to injury, so there won’t exactly be a hole to fill now that he is gone.
The Panthers originally drafted Marshall in the second round six years ago. In between the Panthers and Dolphins, Marshall toiled one year with the Cardinals.
By cutting Marshall the Dolphins the sidestep paying him his $4.55 million base salary. He is now a free agent and free to sign with any other team.
Cornerbacks are always in demand around the league, so it will be interesting to see if Marshall is able to latch on elsewhere. If not, he could return to the Dolphins at a reduced salary.
