Wrigley Field Ivy Theft Thwarted

According to a Chicago Tribune report, two Pennsylvania men were arrested early Sunday morning trying to steal ivy from Wrigley Field.  Aspiring horticulturists perhaps?

Kevin Burge and Steven Gudknecht, both 25, were charged with misdemeanor trespassing when they were arrested at Wrigley about 3:45 a.m., police said. Team security spotted them on closed-circuit cameras, entering the stadium, and when police arrived, the two were “found on the field, as they were trying to get ivy,” said Chicago Cubs spokesman Julian Green….

Police found no evidence that anything was stolen or damaged in the building, (Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John) Mirabelli said.

Mirabelli would not say how the men managed to squeeze through the bars.

Not exactly a heinous crime, yet the Cubs regularly press charges for this offense that apparently happens a couple of times a season.

A safe guess would be that this plot was hatched over a few too many alcoholic, and/or fermented malt beverages.   Better than drunken driving, although it probably won’t look good to prospective employers.
