Lackey Matches Career High in Strikeouts
- Updated: June 26, 2013
Red Sox starter John Lackey tied his career high with 12 strikeouts Wednesday in the Red Sox 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies.
Lackey pitched seven strong innings, giving up only two runs. Strangely enough, it was the third straight start that Lackey has pitched seven innings and given up two runs. He has been on a roll of late, racking up seven quality starts in his last eight appearances.
Lackey was more of a strikeout pitcher earlier in his career. He’s now registered 10 or more strikeouts, 14 times, but this was the first time he has accomplished the feat since 2010.
It was 2008 when Lackey set his career high in strikeouts while with the Angels. His impressive performance allowed him to become the tenth pitcher this year to strike out ten or more batters while not allowing a walk.
Pedro Martinez was the last Red Sox pitcher to strike out 10 or more in a game, way back in 2003.
