Manny Machado Lights Up Rehab Start
- Updated: April 26, 2014
Orioles star third baseman Manny Machado was electric in his first action of the 2014 season. Machado played for the High-A league Frederick Keys team.
Machado ripped two doubles and a triple before striking out in his last at bat. Heck, he was probably exhausted from running the bases in his first three at bats.
Rather than playing third base, Macho DH’ed. With rain likely, it was decided to not risk Machado playing in the field in case the surface got sloppy.
Expect Machado to stay with Frederick through the weekend and then bounced up to Double-A for a few games as he works his way back to the big show.
The 21-year old phenom has been on the shelf due to off-season knee surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to the big club by early May.
Machado had an excellent season in 2013, winning the Platinum Glove Award as the best fielder in both leagues, while hitting .283 with 14 homers and 71 runs batted in.
