Phillies Cliff Lee Tommy John Injury?
- Updated: May 27, 2014
Philadelphia Phillies starter Cliff Lee will not begin throwing for at least three more days, according to the Phillies. Lee was examined on Monday and the evaluation registered a “thumbs down.”
Lee was disabled on May 20 with what was diagnosed as a left elbow strain. With all the pitchers that have had Tommy John surgery the past year, could Lee be headed in the same direction?
Apparently Lee experienced soreness for a month, so that is not typical Tommy John symptoms. Usually a pitchers blows out his elbow and feels sharp, sudden pain.
Yet, when a soreness injury lingers, you have to wonder. Even though Lee may not need Tommy John now, could he in the near future?
If he comes back and pitches this season, the telltale sign will be Lee’s velocity. If he is down three to five miles per hour, it is only a matter of time before..POP GOES THE WEASEL!
