Phillies Fans Leading Major Leagues
- Updated: May 2, 2014
With the Phillies struggling on the field, fans are deciding to stay away from Citizens Bank Park in record numbers. Give Philadelphia residents credit for not paying good money to see crap baseball.
Through 10 home dates, Philadelphia is down a whopping 91,286 from last season. That leads the majors in the number of fans lost per game.
The Phillies are still 13th in the major leagues in average attendance per game at 28,987 fans per game, so believe it or not, there are still a fair amount of fans who enjoy paying to see mediocre baseball.
Will the Phillies be able to hold onto their lead as the team with the biggest attendance drop? The Phillies hold a sizable lead over the Detroit Tigers, -9129 to -5493, so even though it is early in the season, expect Philadelphia to bring home the trophy.
With the huge revenue drop, it will be interesting to see how long it will be before the Phillies start dumping some of the big contracts.
Doesn’t seem like very long ago when the Phillies were winning pennants and packing in the ol’ stadium, does it? Those days are long over.
