Phillies Triple-A Offers Free Funeral
- Updated: August 20, 2013
The Philadelphia Phillies Triple-A Leigh affiliate will be awarding a free funeral to the lucky Phillies fan who wins an essay contest. Over 50 entrants described their ideal funeral and why they deserve to be awarded the free burial.
Since Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel was fired last week, could his career have submitted an essay to receive a free funeral?
Lehigh Iron Pigs GM Kurt Landes said this about the promotion, “It’s one of our best out-of-the-box promotions. Or maybe I should say one of our best ‘in-the-box’ promotions.”
The Iron Pigs (Phillies’ fan) that wins the contest will receive a casket, embalming or cremation services, hearse ride, flowers, headstone and a funeral or memorial service. Total value of the prize package is valued at almost $10,000. The promotion is being sponsored by a local funeral home.
In a wry bit of iron, The Iron Pigs have decided to call the giveaway “Celebration of Life” night. A free concert or jersey give-away would probably be more appropriate, but to each his own.
The lucky winner will be announced win during the sixth inning of Tuesday night’s game.
