Sanchez vs Smith Jets QB Drama
- Updated: August 10, 2013
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was erratic against the Detroit Lions Friday night. He made a couple of key mistakes, but also did some good things late. Fortunately for Sanchez the game was in Detroit or the Jets’ fans would have been shaking the house with boos.
The New York Jets QB controversy started Friday night and it didn’t take long for the drama to begin.
Sanchez tossed a bad interception on his third pass when he under threw a screen. Lions rookie DE Ziggy Ansah intercepted the errant pass and lumbered 14 yards for a touchdown. As if once wasn’t enough, he later threw a second screen pass that was almost intercepted.
Late in the game, Sanchez got his game together, and he finished 10 of 13 passing for 125 yards. He tossed a 26-yard TD pass to Jeff Cumberland and finished with a surprisingly good 99.8 QB rating for the game.
QB Geno Smith, who was drafted by the Jets in the second round, was 6 of 7 before leaving the game with an ankle injury. Early reports are that the injury is not serious.
Former Alabama QB, Greg McElroy, came in to finish the game and completed 11 of 19 passes for 145 yards and one touchdowns with zero interceptions.
How many things in sports are more fun than a QB controversy in New York?
