Sean Payton Trash Talks Tony Romo
- Updated: August 15, 2013
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is returning to the NFL this season with some swagger. On the Jim Rome show, Payton told the host that he was a better quarterback at Eastern Illinois than the Dallas Cowboys signal caller, Tony Romo.
When asked straight up by Rome, whether he or Romo were better, Payton didn’t hold back.
“Payton, wasn’t close,” Payton said. “Just look at the numbers. I don’t know that Tony’s even graduated from Eastern yet.”
Payton did have a fairly successful playing at Eastern Illinois University, leading the Panthers to an 11–2 record in 1986 and the quarter-finals of the Division I-AA Playoffs. He also threw for 509 yards in one game.
The bottom line is that Romo is in the NFL as a quarterback and Payton as a head coach. Payton had a brief stint in the NFL, playing one day with the Kansas City Chiefs. He also played QB with the Chicago Bruisers and Pittsburgh Gladiators during the inaugural season of the Arena Football League.
Payton has a Super Bowl trophy, though, and Romo doesn’t.
